New dry flue gas desulfurization process have been developed. In this new process, flyash is utilized as a raw material of the SO<SUB>2</SUB> absorbent.<BR>The reactions of this new absorbent with SO<SUB>2</SUB> are very different from those which occur in the typical lime injection or semi-dry absorption processes. 90% SO<SUB>2</SUB> removal efficiency was attained under the condition of 1.05-1.15 Ca/S molar ratio.<BR>The numerical simulations of SO<SUB>2</SUB> removal in a cross current moving bed absorber are presented. The results are compared with those from a demonstration plant having a capacity of 50000 Nm<SUP>3</SUP> of flue gas per hour.<BR>The reaction is supposed to proceed as follows: SO<SUB>2</SUB> in the gaseous phase initially reacts on the surface of absorbent, a layer of product CaSO<SUB>4</SUB> being formed.<BR>The SO<SUB>2</SUB> absorption rate was determined to be<BR>dQ/dt=∅ {K<SUB>1</SUB>' (Qs-Q) +K<SUB>2</SUB>'Q}, <BR>where K<SUB>1</SUB>', K<SUB>2</SUB>', Qs and 1 are determined absorption curve of absorbent. dQ/dt depends on many factor, such as gas temperature and SO2, NO, O2, CO2 and H2O concentration.<BR>The numerical model is based on two equations of absorption rate and a mass balance for cross current moving bed absorber. Computed results agreed well with test data.
