X-ray Diffraction Data of Japanese Coals

The X-ray diffraction measurements by powder method usind Curadi-ation are carried out for 34 Japanese and three foreign coals.Treatment of samples, preparation of specimens, procedures in X-ray technique, and calculation method are outlined.Using the data of lattice parameters and crystallite dimensions for (100) and (002) lines, some properties of the coals examined are discussed with special reference to variation in rank. It is suggested that the crystallite grows up and the internal lattice structure in coal molecules gradually changes to of higher regularity, with increasing rank of samples.The nature of the so-called gamma-band is also briefly discussed.
