The purpose of this study was to examine the differences of 'perceived fashion risk' in various kinds of goods for dress and personal adornment used by men, and to classify those goods in terms of 'perceived fashion risk'.
Two hundreds and fifty two male undergraduates were separated into three groups and asked to rate 15 fashion risk concerns about each item on a five-point scale. The number of items was ninety in the total of the three groups.
Major findings obtained were as follows:
1) The same two composite-anxieties were extracted as the elements of structure of 'perceived fashion risk' from each of the three groups. They were named as follows; "Fashion Risk related to Materials", and "Fashion Risk related to Person".
2) Items for dress and personal adornment for which composite-anxiety was perceived strongly were revealed to each of the two composite-anxieties. In particular, coat and upper garment, sports-wear, some items for personal effects, etc, were risky with regard to total anxiety summed by two composite-anxieties.
3) It was possible to cluster ninety items for dress and personal adornment in terms of the perceived fashion risk. Those clusters were as follows: "Anxiety about Quality/Performance" Group, "Anxiety about the Others' eyes" Group, "Excessive Anxiety" Group, and "No Anxiety" Group.
