Repeated injections of DNA antigen gave rise to acinous cell injuries and T-cell infiltration with proliferation of the rat parotid glands and internal lacrymal glands following the formation of antibodies to the DNA antigen. Histopathological observation suggested that the cell injuries, ie degeneration or necrosis, were caused by the ADCC or cytotoxic factor of T-cells which exudated and infiltrated the intralobular connective tissue from the intra parotid or other lymph nodes. In addition to the above observations, T-cell's immunoproliferation of the intraparotid lymph nodes was demonstrated by FITC-conjugated anti T-cell serum. The T-cells flowed out from the punctuated hyperplastic intraparotid lymph nodes injured the connective tissues and acinous cells adjacent to the lymph nodes.<BR>These histopathological observations were similar to the autoimmune disease of the parotidgland 'sicca syndrome or Sjögren's syndrome' in humans which are caused by organ-specific antigens or organ-non specific antigens. Thus, it is suggested that the DNA antigen stimulates the formation of circulatory antibodies and sensitized T-cells and that its immunological reaction sometimes brings about glandary injuries.
