The effect of apomorphine and haloperidol on phenol-induced tremor were studied in mice. The phenol-induced tremor was strengthened by pretreatment with apomorphine, which is a dopamine agonist, in a dose dependent manner. Haloperidol, which is a dopamine receptor blocker, reduced the facilitated effect on phenol-induced tremor which was affected by apomorphine. However, haloperidol itself had no effect on phenol-induced tremor. These results are consistent with previous data that stimulation of the dopaminergic system in the central nervous system can increase the phenol-induced tremor, and indicate that the central dopaminergic neurons are not involved in the inhibition of the tremor induced by phenol.
