The growth form and cyto-biological characteristics of Tawa sarcoma were studied, using Donryu rats transplanted intraperitoneally with 10<SUP>7</SUP> cells of the Tawa sarcoma.<BR>The results obtained were as follows:<BR>1) During the first four days after transplantation the tumor cells showed an almost logarithmical increase followed by the same level continuing till the animals died of tumor.<BR>The tumor cells doubled in 11 to 14 hours during the logarithmical growth phase.<BR>2) The tumorigenic ascitic fluid showed a logarithmical increase in correspondence with the logarithmical increase of cells, although the increase was rather slow during the terminal period of hosts.<BR>3) The tumor cells growing in the ascitic fluid were 20×10<SUP>4</SUP>/mm<SUP>8</SUP>, and they accounted for about 30% of the whole volume of the tumorigenic ascitic fluid.<BR>4) Mitosis developed most markedly two to three days after transplantation proving to be as high as about 4.5%, which was suggestive of a mitotic time of 37 to 53 minutes.<BR>The mitotic rates at prophase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase were almost constantly 39%, 31%, 13% and 17%, respectively.<BR>5) The mean diameter of tumor cells was 18μ in three to five day-old tumorigenic ascites and it showed a tendency to decrease in the initial and final phase of hosts.<BR>6) It was concluded that the tumor cells grew most markedly with an appearance of stability in ascitic fluid three to four days after transplantation.
