Sudden deafness patients were classified into three groups by the hearing level at the first visit. A group consisted of the cases showing the hearing level under 60dB in all frequencies, and the others showing over 70dB and a total deaf group. In the total deaf group, they presented with vertigo or decreased caloric response more frequently than the group within 60dB and the patient in this group showed low recovery rate. However, in the cases within 60dB group, a small number of cases showed no recovery. Therefore, it seemed that the forecasting prognosis was not satisfactory by only hearing level at the first visit, and it seemed that careful observation for hearing change is needed in consideration of the other factor affected by prognosis. Additionally, because a slight improvement of hearing was observed in deaf cases, it should be considered to perform intensive treatment at the early stage of disease.
