Air turbine handpiece is indespensable for ordinary dental clinical works. As the air turbine handpiece system contains a retraction valve, it has been hypothesized that the feature causes the dental unit to draw or aspirate cooling water, saliva, and blood back into the water line.<BR>For that reason, the air turbine system has a high risk for cross infection in the dental office.<BR>The purpose of this study was to determine the microorganisms in the air turbine handpiece after dental clinical use, and the efficiency of simple disinfection for the air turbine handpiece with an alchoholic disinfectant.
