ecently, there are some trends that heavy petroleum fractions are cracked under more severe conditions to give highly desulfurized fuel oils, and light oleffins are produced by cracking of kerosene, gas oil, or even crude oil. In addition, these processings give large amounts of middle fractions enriched in heavy aromatics such as dinuclear and polynuclear compounds. In view of overall economics of these processes, it will be more important to upgrade these fractions.<BR>In this paper, according to papers and patents reported in the past years, the several heavy aromatics sources and their compositions, and some techniques in order to manufacture heavy aromatics as concentrate or compound itself are described. Finally, the uses of heavy aromatics f or industrial oils and raw materials for chemicals, e. g. substitutes for PCB (Polychlorinated Biphenyl), dye-carrier, naphthol, naphthalenic polymer, adamantane etc. are discussed.
