In α-chloralose anesthetized cats, a cortical representation map of facial, scalpal and cervical skins, and intraoral structures such as the tongue, the palate, the upper and the lower buccal mucosas were drawn on Hassler und Muhs-Clement's cortical cytoarchitectonic map by using an initial positive wave of the evoked potential which was an index of specific thalamocortical projection.<BR>1) The contralateral cortical projecting area from the cutaneous territory of the first trigeminal branch (I) was located in the lateral part of the coronal gyrus. On the other hand, the projecting area from the third trigeminal territory (III) was in the medial part of the coronal gyrus and the lateral sigmoid gyrus. And that from the trigeminal second (II) was located between I and III's projecting areas. The contralateral projecting area from the perioral skin was located in the rostral part of each projecting area I, II and III, and as the stimulation site was apart peripherally from the perioral skin, the projecting areas shifted dorsocaudally along the coronal sulcus. 2) The contralateral cortical projecting areas from the scalpal and cervical skins were located in the most dorsocardal part of the coronal gyrus. 3) The contralateral cortical projecting areas from the intraoral structures were more rostral to the facial projecting areas and the ipilateral projecting areas from the peri -and intra-oral structures were located in the most rostral part of the coronal gyrus. 4) Most contra-and ipsi-lateral cortical projection areas from the facial, scalpal, and cervical skins were localized within 3b, while those from the mental skin, the lower buccal mucosa, and the tongue seemed to be in 3a.
