Fast discharge N<SUB>2</SUB> and HF lasers were efficiently excited by a novel stripline, multichannel-surface-spark-gap-type, low-impedance Mark generator which is simple, compact, and scalable. For an HF laser using a mixture of SF6 and C2H6, a volmetric energy of 4 J/l and an electrical efficiency of 2 % were obtained with high energy loading of∼200 J/l.
