Recent research works on waveguide quasi-phase matched second-harmonic generation (QPM-SHG) devices are reviewed with emphasis on devices using LiNbO<SUB>3</SUB>. At first fun-damental principle and theoretical characteristics of QPM-SHG devices are outlined. Various methods for ferroelectric domain inversion as a key process technique are described. Then ex-perimental results on QPM-SHG obtained thus far are reviewed with comparison to those obtained in devices of other materials, and related problems are discussed. Some novel device configurations for improving the performances or avoiding problems are also discussed.
