A scanning laser microfluorometer has several advantages over a conventional optical microfluorometer especially in studies of biological specimen. This paper reports the construction and the performance of a computer-aided scanning confocal microfluorometric system which can be used for (1) measuring of fluorescence intensities at multiple wavelengths and intracellular distribution of fluorescence intensity at each wavelength, and (2) therewith composing a computer-processed distribution map of particular biological material.
