Single mode oscillation of the TE CO<SUB>2</SUB> laser which contained strong absorber (NH<SUB>3</SUB>) was attained at theline center with the injection technique, although the presence of the absorber strongly reduced the CO<SUB>2</SUB> lasergain at the line center. As the pressure of the NH<SUB>3</SUB> gas was increased, the delay time of the single mode oscillation was also increased. In the single mode TE CO<SUB>2</SUB> laser pulse, a dip was observed. The dip is due to anincrease of the absorption by NH<SUB>3</SUB> and is interpreted in term of the two-photon process.
