The measurement errors of small signal gain <I>g</I>0 and saturation parameter <I>I</I>s were analysed using a computer simulation for an amplifying medium with radial distribution. The beam distortion taking place in such a was found to cause considerable errors in the values of <I>g</I>0 and <I>I</I>s obtained using the equationIn <I>G</I>=<I>g</I>0<I>L</I>-1/<I>I</I>s (<I>G</I>-1) <I>I</I>inIn the case of a CO2 waveguide laser of 2 mmφ bore and 10 cm discharge length, the error amounts to as high as 18% for <I>g</I>0 and the latter 25% for <I>I</I>s. The errors estimated in this paper can be used for correcting the measured values of <I>g</I>0 and <I>I</I>s.
