Sulfate reduction rates of the sedkment at the depth of 0-5cm were measured for 15 month from September, 1984 to November 1985 in eutrophicated blackish Lake Nakanoumi, Japan.<BR>The sulfate reduction rates were usually high at the surface sediment and decreased with increased depth. The average sulfate reduction rate of the sediment (0-3cm) at the central position (St.4) and heavily ponuted area Yonago Bay (St.11) was 53.8±25.0 and 104.4±72.1 nmol day-1 ml-1, annual estimated decomposition rate of organic matter was 14.2 and 27.4 g-cm-2, respectively.
