A Case of Heart Base Tumor with Cardiac Tamponade in Dog. I. Clinical Findings.

Clinical findings from general clinical examination and echocardiography of 10-year-old dog whose chief complaint was cough and abdominal distention indicate typical cardiac tamponade. Clinical course was observed with conservative treatment.<BR>The dog died 22 days after diagnosis. Autopsy showed retention of blood-like fluid in pericardial cavity, tumor at the base of the heart in pericardial cavity and compression zone in the right atrium. We confirmed echocardiography to be effective not only in understanding hemodynamics of heart and great vessels but also in diagnosing cardiac tamponade in pericardial cavity.
