Pulsed Doppler echocardiography was used to determine the differences of the blood flow velocity profiles depending on the site of sample volume. Blood flow profiles were recorded from two sites at the mitral and tricuspid valve area, and from three sites at the aortic and pulmonary valve area in 31 normal conscious dogs. It revealed that there were significant differences in peak velocities across the aortic and pulmonary valves. Ejection time recorded from aortic and pulmonary valves correlated to the heart rate. As a result, it is important to clarify the site of sample volume and heart rate in examining the blood flow velocity profiles.
