Primary Pulmonary Hypertension in a Japanese Black Calf

Primary pulmonary hypertension which had not been reported previously in cattle was observed in a Japanese black calf.<BR>Cardiac catheterization at 4 days of age revealed markedly elevated right ventricular and pulmonary arterial pressures. The calf was necropsied at 9 days of age. Histologically, medial hypertrophy in the small pulmonary arteries was observed in the greater part of the lung. Moreover, some arteries showed obstruction or dilatation.
