We report a case of transient ischemic attacks (TIAs) manifested as Wallenberg's syndrome.<BR>A 62 years old male patient was admitted to our hospital because of recurrent attacks of vertigo, right orbital pain, right facial numbness, dysphagia, dysarthria, and gait disturbance. The attacks, which lasted 10 to 30 minutes and occurred one to three times a day, included a part or whole of elements of Wallenberg's syndrome. Neither CT nor MRI revealed any abnormalities in the brain including the medulla oblongata. Angiographically the right vertebral artery showed severe stenosis with near occlusion at the distal portion, while no filling of the right posteroinferior cerebellar artery was demonstrated. The patient was treated medically with ticlopidine and warfarin, either of which had no immediate effect. He had more than 400 TIAs until one year later when it disappeared completely. No brain infarction developed. This is an unusual case of TIAs in terms of its symptom and the frequency of the attacks.
