The Feeding Value of Rapeseed Oilmeal for Broiler

Three experiments were performed to know the replacing level of rapeseed oilmeal for soybean oilmeal in broiler finisher diet. Birds (WC×WR or WC×NH) were fed on diets containing soybean oilmeal or 10-20% rapeseed oilmeal for a period from 4 weeks of age to 9 or 10 weeks of age and then these diets were almost kept isocaloric and isonitrogenous.The results obtained were summarized as follows:1. Little difference was observed in body weight gain of chicks between soybean oilmeal control groups and rapeseed oilmeal groups in all experiments.2. When chicks were fed on the diets containing 10-20% of rapeseed oilmeal, their feed conversion (feed/gain) was similar to that of soybean oilmeal control diet, but their feed intake was slightly lower than that of control birds.3. The feeding of rapeseed oilmeal had no ill effects on ratio of ready-to-cook and carcass quality of chicks. Thyroid weight of chicks fed on diet containing 10-20% rapeseed oilmeal was 1.5-2.0 times those of control chicks, but considering their thyroid enlargement their histological changes were slight.4. The results of these experiments suggested that 10-20% rapeseed oilmeal might be included as a replacement for soybean oilmeal in broiler finisher diet without adverse effects, when the dietary levels of energy and protein were controlled.
