To study the effect of Japanese tea on the growth and abdominal fat deposition of the broiler, birds were given Japanese tea with four different concentrations from 3 to 10 weeks of age. Japanese tea (5g) was extracted with 200ml of tap water at 95-100°C for 5min. This concentration was defined as T1 concentration. T2 (1/2 T1) and T3 (1/4 T1) groups were prepared by dilution with tap water. Control group was supplemented only tap water. At the end of experiment, birds were sacrificed after blood sampling and then the representative organs were weighed.Body weight gain was linearly reduced as the increase of Japanese tea concentration. The similar tendency was observed in feed and water intakes. Feed conversion ratio was not influenced, whereas the ratio of dressed meat to carcass weight was reduced by Japanese tea. Relative weight of abdominal fat was significantly decreased by the supplementation of Japanese tea. The abdominal fat weight was good correlated with the final body weight (r=0.71).These results suggest that Japanese tea supplementation is available for broiler production with the lean meat.
