The requirement of available threonine (AT) of laying hens at 32 to 42 weeks of age was determined using the diets consisted mainly of corn, wheat and milo, and contained 2.80 kcal ME/g and 15.0% CP. To the low threonine basal diet (0.35% threonine and 0.30% AT), five graded levels of L-threonine from 0 to 0.2% were added. The availability of threonine, and other amino acids in the basal diet and added L-threonine were determined to be 84.5, 76 to 96 and 100%, respectively. The highest egg production rate and egg mass were obtained on the diet with 0.35% AT, and at the higher AT levels, both parameters decreased. The requirement of AT for the maximum egg mass was estimated to be 329mg/hen/day and 0.33% of diet.
