Three lines (K, H and T) of SPF chickens of Yakumo Farm, Kitasato University were originated from the SPF eggs produced in the Kitasato University and other institutions such as Taito Pfizer Co. Ltd. and Kitasato Institute. The difference in egg laying performance of the lst to 3rd generation of K, H and T line SPF chickens was compared between the generations and lines.1) In each line, the difference in generation had little influence on the rate of raising, viability, body weight, feed consumption and laying performance.2) Average age at first egg production in T line was 15 days earlier than in K line, and average day at 50% egg production in T line was 23 days earlier than in H line.3) At 21 to 80 weeks of age, average percentage of egg production of 3 generations was 56.1, 31.9% and 50.6% for K, H and T line, respectively. Average number of hen-housed egg production of 3 generations was 176, 111 and 202 for K, H and T line, respectively. Egg laying performance of H line was significantly lower (P<0.01) than K and T lines.4) No significant difference in viability, body weight, egg weight and fertility was observed in the chickens of 3 lines at the laying period. Average feed consumption (g/chicken/day) of 3 generation in each line was 102.4, 110.9 and 112.4g for K, H and T line, respectively. Feed consumption of K line was significantly lower (P<0.01) than the other lines.5) Chickens of H line took more days before they attained 50% egg production, and consumed more feed and yielded less eggs than the other two lines. These results indicate that feed efficiency of H line was lower than K and T line chickens.
