Using ducks prepared with an artificial anus, three experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of feeding method and feed intake on the feed digestibility and activities of digestive enzymes in feces. When the same composition diet was fed ad libitum to the ducks in forms of pellet, dry and wet mashes, ducks fed pelleted diet showed greater feed intake and higher value in feed digestibility. Ducks force-fed dry and wet mashes at the same amount of ad libitum intake level, the feed digestibility and feed passage rate showed similar value with ad libitum-fed ducks. The ducks force-fed wet mash in four feed intake levels, the digestibilities of organic matter, crude protein, crude fat, N-free extract and crude fiber decreased by 3.6, 4.3, 1.8, 2.5 and 56.0%, respectively, as the feed intake was increased from 80% to 250% of ad libitum intake. Faster feed passage rate was observed in the ducks force-fed 200% and 250% of ad libitum intake. The amylase activity (unit/g) in feces was not markedly affected by the feed intake level, while the total proteolytic activity tended to decrease with the increased feed intake level. As daily output (unit/bird/day), the amylase activity increased parallel to the increase of feed intake, whereas the total proteolytic activity increased only by 56% and 90%, respectively, as the feed intake was increased by 100% and 150%.
