Changes in feeding and drinking activities were studied in reference to spontaneous oviposition as well as PGF2α-induced oviposition and indomethacin-treated oviposition block in the chicken. There was a clear pattern in both activities at spontaneous oviposition with a reduction of activity before oviposition followed by an increase immediately after oviposition. Neither premature oviposition nor oviposition block had an effect on the activities. On the other hand, premature ovulation induced by ovine LH advanced the occurrence of the typical pattern of feeding activity concurrently with premature oviposition. These results indicates ovulation may be one of the pivotal factors influencing feeding and drinking activities.
