Blood samples from 600 Japanese native breed fowls, 5 Red Jungle Fowls and 12 European breed fowls were analyzed for plasma amylases and transferrins using agarose gel electrophoresis and starch gel electrophoresis, respectively.Fowl plasma amylases with six phenotypic variants (Fig. 1) are controlled by three autosomal codominant alleles, Amy-1A, Amy-1B (HASHIGUCHI et al., 1970) and Amy-1C (newly found). In most of Japanese native breeds, the gene frequency of Amy-1A was high, whereas Amy-1B was predominant in Gifujidoris and Tomarus. The frequency of Amy-1C was low and was found only in Gifujidoris, Shamos (Japanese Games), Chabos (Japanese Bantams) and Minohikis.Fowl plasma transferrins are controlled by three autosomal codominant alleles, TfA, TfB and TfC (CROIZIER, 1967). Gene frequency of TfB was high in Japanese native breeds, and that of TfC was low and found in Totenkos, Gifujidoris, Koshamos, Echigonankins, Chabos, Koeyoshis and Ukokkeis (Silkies). TfA was not observed in 24 Japanese native breeds used in this experiment. Our present and previous (TANABE et al., 1977) results showed that the genetic construction of Gifujidori was different from those of Tosajidori, Ohiki and Uzurao.
