• Oviducal epithelial cells were cultured at 41°C and fowl spermatozoa were incubated together.Spermatozoa incubated with the cultured cells decreased their motility rapidly in association with the degeneration of the cultured cells. When spermatozoa incubated with living cells throughout their life, the motility declined almost linearly and their life span was also prolonged.These results show that living cells exert a favourable effect on the survival of spermatozoa.This study was supported by a grant from the Ministry of Education of Japan (156185).
