The grounding resistance of a combination electrode composed of a horizontal linear wire or a mesh and vertical rods, can be calculated by the current simulation method using average potential on contour surface. In the procedure, the combination electrode is divided into n sections and a linear current source is located in each divided section. Then simultaneous equations where the current sources are unknowns, are obtained. Solution of the equations gives the currents injected from the electrode's surface, so the grounding resistance can be calculated. In the method, as n increases, the error of the calculated grounding resistance decreases, but computing time and memory capacity of computer increase. Thus, for effective calculation, the choice of n is very important, so the relation of n to the error is investigated concerning various types of the electrode and various configurations of the earth. For an actual example of a combination electrode composed of a mesh and two vertical rods, the calculated grounding resistance well agreed with the measured one.
