This paper describes our experience with a case of early cancers of the esophagus, stomach and colon, which were found simultaneously and resected radically. The patient was a 60-year-old man. He had been seen at another hospital for evaluation of positive occult blood in the stool, which was pointed out at a medical check-up. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed two cancers of the stomach. Preoperative examination to detect the presence of any other lesions revealed cancer of the esophagus and colon by gastrointestinal endoscopy and endocolonoscopy. An operation was undertaken to resect the whole stomach for gastric cancers, and endoscopic mucosal resections were performed for esophageal and colon cancers. Histologically, the tumors were all early cancer of the mucosa or submucosa in terms of depth of tumor invasion, and were considered simultaneous triple cancers on the basis of the tumor sites and their time of occurrence. The patient was discharged after a 49-day hospitalization. He has been disease-free for 2 years and 7 months after operation. In JAPAN, 20 cases of triple early cancers of the esophagus, stomach and colon, including the present case, have been reported since the first description of this synchronous combination in 1990. This patient should be carefully monitored over the long term.
