A 32-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of left lower abdominal pain. Abdominal computed tomographic scan revealed an intraabdominal mass 10cm in diameter. Five days after admission, her abdominal pain was aggravated, and an emergency laparotomy was performed. There were large volumes of ascites and the mass which involeved the transverse colon and ruptured. A part of the involved transverse colon became necrotic. Transverse colectomy including the tumor was thus performed. Pathologic diagnosis was mesenteric fibromatosis (desmoid tumor). We experienced a very rare case of rupture of a desmoid tumor. Here we report this case with a review of the literature.
