It is uncommon that intestinal obstruction is caused by intestinal hernia arisen in a defect of the broad ligament of the uterus, especially that operated on laparoscopically. We herein report a case of internal hernia of the broad ligament of uterus diagnosed and treated by laparoscopy-assisted surgery.A 46-year-old woman with a previous history of undergoing a cesarean section was seen at the hospital because of abdominal pain and nausea, and was admitted with a diagnosis of adhesive intestinal obstruction. Conservative therapy resulted in symptomatic remission, but exploration of the abdomen revealed an incarceration of the small bowel hernia through a defect of the left board ligament of the uterus. Whereas the incarcerated intestine was not necrotized, severe stenosis was recognized in the incarcerated bowel, so a partial resection of the small intestine was carried out and the hiatus was closed with a laparoscopic clips.Making the definite preoperative diagnosis of intestinal hernia due to a defect of broad ligament is very difficult. Laparoscopic operation is thought to be valuable not only to make diagnosis but also to offer minimally invasive and preventive treatment for broad ligament hernia.
