For most practical uses, some kind of mineral fillers are added to asphalt to increase its consistency. In this paper the viscoelasticity and the low temperature properties of the mineral-filled asphalt were investigated and the following results were obtained.(1) The normal viscosity λ and the equilibrium compliance Je of the mineral-filled asphalt are expressed by λ=λ0(1+kφ), and Je=Je01/(1+kφ) resistively, where φ is the volume fraction of mineral fillers and k is the constant characterized by the particle shape of fillers.(2) The Fraass breaking point of asphalt is the equicompliance temperature corresponding to a compliance of about 10-9cm2/dyne, and the addition of mineral fillers to asphalt raises the Fraass breaking temperature owing to the decrease of the compliance as shown above.(3) The impact resistance of asphalt at low temperatures varies depending on the impact velocity and shows the maximum value at the velocity of about 300cm/sec. The addition of mineral fillers to asphalt does not remarkably increase its impact resistance.
