The low-boiling fraction of crude detergent alkylate, obtained from benzene and propylene-tetramer in the presence of hydrogen fluoride, was analyzed by v.p.c. comparing with pure substances. The result shows that the fraction was composed of benzenealkylate (90.4%), paraffin (8.9%) and olefin (0.7%). The benzenealkylate, constituting main peaks on v.p.c. diagram, is identified to be the following mono-alkylates having t-alkyl group of 1, 1-dimethyltype; t-Bu. Ph., t-Pe. Ph., 1, 1-diMe. Bu. Ph., 1, 1, 3-triMe. Bu. Ph., 1, 1-diMe. Pe. Ph., 1, 1, 4-triMe. Pe. Ph., 1, 1-diMe. Hex. Ph. Paraffins, which were isolated from the sulfonated fraction, contained mostly dodecane isomers. These isomers were considered to be produced from propylene-tetramer during alkylation process. The presence of olefins, of which principal component being dodecene, was also indicated by Bromine value of each fraction.
