The mode of inheritance of delayed-type panicle (D-type) sterility induced by salinity (4, 000ppm) was investigated with the F<SUB>2</SUB> and the backcross populations derived from Magnolia:XJhona 349 by using water-culture techniques. Resistance to the D-type sterility was found to be a dominant character and controlled by a small number of genes. It is presumed that at least three pairs of genes are involved in developing the sterility.
