Interspecific crossing in Pruleus spp. was investigated to obtain basic data for stone fruits breeding. Interspecific cross pollinations of mume (P. mume) Xapricot (P. armeniaca), apricotX mume, plum (P. salicina) with mume and apricot, resulted in as high a percentage of fruit set as any intervarietal cross pollinations, and hence, proved to be closely related phylogenetically. Furthermore, in the crosses of plum with peach (P, persica) and cherries (P. pauciflora and P, yedoelesis), plum was found to be slightly compatible with peach and incompatible with cherries. The utilization of inter-specific hybrids was discussed.
