An electron-beam-controlled CO<SUB>2</SUB> laser and it's performance have been developedand investigated. E-Beam controlled dischar ge has successfully pumped large volume CO<SUB>2</SUB> laser gas mixture up to two atmospheric pressure. Electrical characteristics of the discharge and laser properties of the pumped medium have been investigated. Small-signal-gain coefficients up to 0.04cm <SUP>-1</SUP> were achieved at field strengths of 4 KV/cm atm. Pulse amplification experiments indicate that the coupling of the rotational levels influences the saturation energy E<SUB>s</SUB>.
