Effect of nutrients, especially blue green alga, Microcystis aeruginosa addition to the sediment from Lake Kasumigaura on the musty odor production by actinomycetes were determined. In the experiment with the water extract of sediment as a culture broth for actiomycetes, the addition of starch was the most effective to the odor production and the odor was accelerated by the addition of phosphorus with starch. Moreover, sediment with starch was found to support the odor production by actinomycetes. Actinomycetes could produce the odor in the sediment with high concentration of M. aeruginosa as a starch like-substance under shaking condition. It was considered that the two factors, the additional high concentration of M.aeruginosa to the sediment and the aerobic condition were of importance to the musty odor occurrence associated with actinomycetes in Lake Kasumigaura.
