The feeding behavior and certain other activities of laying hens under low temperature conditions were studied. Six hens were reared on pelleted feed and observed for changes in feeding behavior during exposure to temperatures of 7, 14 or 21°C. Diurnal behavioral patterns were observed by the VTR-system.1) The daily feed intake of hens exposed to 7°C increased by 16.5% that when exposed to 21°C.2) The number of pecks and time spent pecking at feed per day, as well as rate of feed intake varied with temperature.3) Diurnal feeding behavior patterns remained the same regardless of temperature.4) The pecking and preening decreased and resting increased during the period of exposure to 7°C. This may be peculiar to hens exposed to low temperature.(Japan. Poult. Sci., 23, 97∼100, 1986)
