We experienced 6 cases of primary appendiceal carcinoma in a recent 4-year period between January 2001 and December 2004. In addition to our 6 cases, we picked up 39 cases from other 4 reports presented during past 5 years, each of which reported more than 5 cases of primary appendiceal carcinoma. A total of 45 cases were enrolled to this study to examine the clinical features and outcomes. As for the histologic type, there were 28 (62%) cases of colonic type adenocarcinoma, 13 (29%) cases of mucinous cystadenocarcinoma (cystic type), and 4 (9%) cases of other types. Cases in which the tumor depths were deeper than 'ss' accounted for 85% (38 cases) of all cases. Lymph node metastases were proven in 38% of all cases. Cumulative survival rates at 5 years were inferred to be 50-60% for both colonic type adenocarcinoma and mucinous cystadenocarcinoma (cystic type). No statistically significant differences in the survival were found between two groups.
