It is necessary for increasing the utility of process simulations on personal computers to improve the estimates for physicochemical properties, the performance of which depends on estimation methods and basic physicochemical property database (PCPDB). This study is concerned with an efficient logical database design method, which is composed of two procedures. The first is preliminary data analysis for identifying the initial entities by two steps i.e. partitioning the data of the PCPDB into subdivisions based on the data requirement of simulation computation and determining the initial entity for each subdivision based on the functional relationship of the relevant data. The second is a synthetic approach to constructing the relations. As a comprehensive method, three measures (the expression of complex facts, the representation of "many to many" relationships with composite-keys, and the separate fields for disposing the default and multivalue problems) are developed for improving the general method for data analysis and design. Based on the proposed method, the PCPDB is developed and put into service successfully. It ensures not only quick access to data (including group parameters) but also saves the required core memory for prompt data calling. Therefore a micro- or personal computer can execute it with these well-designed relations.
