Formation of novel metal-organic framework (MOFs) of nickel(II) dithiocarbamate complexes derived from amino acid and effects of the substituents at α-carbon on the MOFs were thoroughly investigated. The complexes from 2-aminoisobutyric acid (2d) and 1-aminocyclohexane carboxylic acid (2e) form novel MOFs through co-crystallization with 1,4-dioxane in the ratios of 1 : 2 and 2 : 3, respectively. These methyl or alkylene substituents alter the direction of carboxyls to upright from the molecular plain [Ni(S2CN)2]. Such conformational change should enable bridging these complexes via. intermolecular hydrogen bonding between both terminal carboxyls (-COOH) and near central carbamoyls (S2CN-H) with 1,4-dioxane.
