伝統薬物研究が薬理学にもたらす新しい視点

伝統医学で用いる薬物（天然物）中から画期的な薬理作用を示す化合物がこれまで数多く同定されており，伝統薬物研究は新薬開発の重要な基盤となってきた．伝統薬物由来の化合物に関する薬理研究の報告は多いが，そのほとんどが薬効に関連したシグナリング分子の活性や発現の制御を示したもので，化合物の直接の作用点を示した報告は少ない．直接の作用点が不明なままでは，化合物の真のシグナリングが明らかになったとは言えない．さらに，化合物の作用点を明らかにすることは，対象となる疾患の治療ターゲット分子を提唱することに繋がり得る．そこで本総説では，近年，直接の作用点が明らかになった伝統薬物由来の化合物の報告を例に挙げ，伝統薬物の薬理研究が，疾患治療戦略に新しい視点を与える可能性について概説する．
