It is generally difficult to shape rubbers by conventional cutting methods as they deform largely before cutting. A new method is proposed in the present paper to drill silicon rubber by applying the hydrostatic pressure to suppress the elastic deformation. It is experimentally shown that the soft silicon rubber can be well drilled with the aid of the hydrostatic pressure device to apply the hydrostatic pressure to the silicon rubber work. The surface roughness of the drilled hole is much improved by applying the hydrostatic pressure over 1MPa.
