Analysis of phospholipids e, tracted from the erythrocytes of patients with hereditary spherocytosis revealed that neither the total phospholipid content nor the phospholipid class composition of the membrane differs significantly from what was obtained of normal erythrocytes. The phospholipid class composition of the blood serum of the patients was also normal. A marked decrease in the serum level of β-lipoprotein as well as the lipid components (cholesterol, triglyceride and phospholipid) was noted. The decrease, however, tended to be restored partially after splenectomy. The significance of such hypolipidemia of these patients was discussed.
