Excessive alkalosis can cause blood mass formation and erythrocyte deformability, leading to the disturbance of circulation. Here 38 cases were studied and devided into 3 groups. Base excess during perfusion was 1.2±1.3 in group I (Bently BCM-7 8 cases), -0.28±1.2 in group II (COBS CML 15 cases) and 0.98±1.5 in group III (Capiox E15 cases). Malformed erythrocyte were found in 75% of group I, 10% group II, 14% of group III and we had to exchange an oxygenator because of disturbance of circulation in group I & III. Echinocyte and blood mass formation were found on the surface of membrane after perfusion through scanning-electromicroscope. Furthermore, experiments were performed with 200 & 800ml bovine blood priming. It is suggested that the more the blood priming increased, the more blood mass formation with echinocyte and also perfusion pressure increased.
