The case of a patient who survived strut fracture of a 29mm Björk-Shiley convexo-concave mitral valve prosthesis is presentes. Emergency surgical treatment was responsible for her survival. In addition, intraoperative echocardiography was aided in detecting and retrieving the escaped disc, which could easily move around during surgery. Prompt surgical treatment in lifesaving and intraoperative echocardiography in diagnosis are emphasised.
