The effect of therapeutic DFPP was clinically investigated in drug refractory disorders. The DFPP treatment was performed 248 times (one to three times a week) for 10 patients who had been treated with medical therapy of steroid or immunosuppresive drugs without any improvement in their symptoms. After initiation of the DFPP therapy, neuromuscular disturbances improved excellently and became soon free from DFPP in 6 cases, and got better in 4 cases. Two cases of chrome inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy have shown improvement in some of disorders but each of them continued to receive DFPP for 22 months and 16 months, respectively. After DFPP treatment, serum levels of immmunoglobulin were lowered as 41% in IpgG, 59% in IgA and 55% in IgM. These results suggest that DFPP is beneficial and useful for neurological diseases which do not respond well to drug therapy. We recommend Evaflux 3A to be used as a second filter of DFPP because loss of serum protein was minimized and IgG was well eliminated.
