To evaluate the hemodynamic characteristics of a new type of blood pump, vibrating flow pump (VFP) for the cardiopulmonary support system (CPS), an ex vivo study using adult goats was performed. The VFP generated the high frequency blood flow with 10Hz. Though the pressure gradient across the membrane oxygenator was about 100mmHg, the gas transfer efficiency seemed to be excellent compared with the non-pusatile roller pump system. These results suggest that this CPS may be useful system in the sense of simple drive mechanism which permit simple application.
