Pulmonary vein isolation is increasingly performed for the treatment of atrial fibrillation. However the long term data of clinical outcome after circumferential pulmonary vein isolation in hemodialysis patients are limited. We report the long term results of catheter ablation to atrial fibrillation in hemodialysis patients./From 2002 to 2008, 16 hemodialysis patients (age; 64±5.4 years, median follow-up period; 5.3±2 years) underwent circumferential pulmonary vein isolation. Sinus rhythm was present in 4 patients (25%) after the 1st procedure. The 2nd procedure and 3rd procedure was performed in 12 and 3 patients either. Stable sinus rhythm was achieved 11 of 16 patients (68.8%) after all procedure. In addition clinical improvement was achieved 3 of 16 patients (18.8%). Four patients died during follow up (one is cardiac death, other 3 are non cardiac death). Complications related with catheter ablation were not observed./Limited anti arrhythmic drug is available for hemodialysis patients. On the other hand, there is a situation that atrial fibrillation trigger disdialysis syndrome. Circumferential pulmonary vein isolation can be an efficient approach to that kind of situation, whereas an efficiency of that for hemodialysis patients in our result is a little restricted in comparison with patients not receiving hemodialysis in other reports.
